I am looking for a good top soil amendments just for the simplicity and my lack of knowledge. this will be my first grow. I will be using Happy Frog medium.
I seen that you were using Earth Dust...but you were seeing some plant deficiencies
for w/e reason you said it may have been the auto watering system..I know it's only been a week or so but have you came to a conclusion.
I really would like to know your thoughts on Earth Dust or would you recommend something else?
This is my first time using dry nutrients + top dressing as well. After speaking with Dan from TGSC (The Green Sunshine Company), he mentioned that the Earth Dust Boost nutrients are meant to be used with the Earth Dust Base nutrients so that could be why I encountered deficiencies. He recommended that if I don't use the Earth Dust Base nutrients, to try using more than 1 tbsp per gallon of medium (up to 2 tbsp) of Earth Dust Boost nutrients. Next round I'm going to use closer to 2 tbsp per gallon of medium to see how that works out.
This will be my first time using earth dust. I plan to use happy frog. I also use mykos when transplanting. I'm not sure if it's ok with earth dust or not.
@yrobert27919 Yes, Mykos can be used with Earth Dust.
thank you!
Currently using Earth Dust and Happy Frog soil. So far things are going well.
I used ED with lousy Dollar General potting soil and had terrific results.
I am pleased with the results.
I'm currently using the Dr. Earth brand of dry amendments as they are way cheaper than Earth Dust, and my plant is exploding! I'm in NFTG #4 soil also, which is charged by not hot.
Which Dr. Earth product and what is NFTG#4? I'm interested in anything that will help my grow and wallet.
@davehockman In another post he mentioned Dr. Earth 4-4-4 dry fertilizer -> https://amzn.to/2lHmURE NFTG = Nectar For The Gods #4 soil -> https://amzn.to/2moTEzw (You may be able to get it cheaper locally)
@davehockman Check Nectar for the Gods website to see if there is a local garden center near you that sells their #4 soil. Amazon is too expensive. Fox Farms Ocean Forest is good stuff too, but it can be a bit on the "hot" side, so I wouldn't add nutrients to it for the first 4 weeks or so.
would you say flushing is as important while using earth dust or any other dry amendments ? with trying to create a living soil wouldn't you prefer to keep everything available for the next run ?
@shaw076 Not as important. Correct, it's good to keep nutrients and microbes in living soil; flushing away isn't beneficial like it is when using synthetic nutrients and there is salt buildup.
No flushing when using dry amendments, creates living soil. I am currently on my 3rd grow using the same soil by recharging with the amendments.
