Harvesting in a very dry climate

    in Grow Community

Hey guys, new to the forum here but I'm an huge fan of Chris as I believe he is one the most non-biased, educated and informative growers out there sharing gold for free.

I live in Utah where my RH is typically 20-30%. I have been drying my plants whole plant hung in a 3x3 tent with an exhaust fan barely kicked on and an oscillating fan that is running very low too (not hitting the plant). I have a humidifier in there set to 60% as well as temps being 60-65. I have been doing around 7 day drying times to where the stems are barley about to snap. Once I jar them, my hygrometer in the jars barley reaches 40-45%. I have to throw a Boveda in the jars to help bring the RH up, which I feel like the cure is already compromised.

Please, anyone that lives in a similar environment with some feedback? The buds are beautiful, healthy, smoke good, but I can't seem to get the harvest down to get the proper terp expressions in smell and taste - very mild.

    Thank you all!!!

I struggle with low humidity in the winter and sometimes I can only get in 4-5 days before I have to jar them up. Sometimes the buds seem dry enough even though the stem does not snap, so I go by how the bud feels and not so much how the stem snaps.

You mention 20-30% RH but then mention your humidifier is set to 60% ... Does your environment not get up to 60% ? Do you have an inline fan pulling air out of the environment? If so, you may just need to lower the speed of the inline fan.

@Mr. Grow It Appreciate the reply. The tent gets to 60% but my overall living and house environment gets to 30%. I have the speed lowered all the way. I’m going to try jarring early this next harvest and see what happens.

I grow in a small 10x10 room using a humidifier to bring RHup to 60%

I leave all leaves on the plant including the water leaves with room temp about 65f

This slows me a 10-14 day dry and about 55%RH jarred
