    leaf fingers

    in Grow Community

can one really tell if a plant is a Male or Female just by the number of fingers of each leaf ?

i have noticed that in some plants that are Male they seem to have 9 to11 fingers to each main leaf and that the current Female plant i have going only reached 7 fingers maybe one leaf had 9 -- but seen mostly between 5 and 7 on my current budget grow at about 40 days and yes in flower as well - and lost track of the total days in flower

so i hope that by Christmas or New Years i should have a good idea of what is what

so MR Grow it what is you thought on this ? and anyone else have any thoughts if its possible to tell just by finger count on leaves ?

Different genetics will express themselves in various ways. The number of fingers on a leaf is a characteristic and both male and female plants can have the same number of fingered leaves.

This is actually the first I've ever heard of counting the fingers of leaves to determine sex. Any links to the source?

    Replying to

have not found anything yet in my endeavors for answers

but this has happened to me a couple of times where it just seems like the fingers hit 11 are about the 5th to 7th node up on plant - and are like the biggest ones compared to the rest of the leafs

this can vary as to when the top gets popped to make that horseshoe / double stem as the new mains stalks off the original base stalk

the current Female i have now only hit 9 on the fingers then dropped to 5 and 7 even after pruning / topping at its current state in growth as pictured above

the last grow i had i did not really pay much attention to the leaf finger count - will have to go over some old photo's to see if this indeed did take place - as in some plants its been hard to tell if Male or Female until about days 45 to 60 - as it seems to be about when its more seen with the naked eye and notices - without a magnifier

this was the last male that went to the cats - just glad i got a couple of pictures of it

    before its cat treat

and yes this was part of the Frankenstein grow i had going a bit scrawny but it was in blacklight and doing fair by all means / as you can see its the little dreaded pollen sack
