Hey Mr.G I believe I have seen videos of yours where you are using what looks like straw as a top cover in your pots. If so, where do you get the straw?, Are you afraid of bringing in pests?, Do you still do it?, and if not what would you suggest as a clean safe mulch? Thanks.
i see that the otherday was thinking the same and i was thinking about getting clay pebbles for my next grow because im switching back to soil ??
I thought about using those also but was thinking about something that might break down slowly over time and benefit the soil. Not sure, thats why I was asking for ideas. I appreciate it.
It's barley straw from BuildASoil. Here's a link: https://buildasoil.com/products/barley-straw-mulch?_pos=2&_sid=672fc7602&_ss=r&variant=952957049 I didn't bring in pests from it. I didn't encounter pests at all using it either. I still do use it at a mulch layer sometimes. I top dress my plants sometimes and it's kinda a pain removing the straw and then placing it on again so sometimes I just add the straw after all top dressing is done. I also left a lot of the straw in the soil after harvest when I was amending the soil. The straw will help with aeration and will also break down over time providing more nutes for the plants.
Hey, I checked out that site and I'm going to order some but I'm not quite sure what size to get, could you give me an idea of how much you got and how far that went for you? I really appreciate it.
@gregthe357 If I remember correctly, I got the 2-gallon bag. I still have a lot left and used it on around 10-15 plants already. I re-use it too so it goes along way.
Excellent, thank you, thats what I was looking for.
