Struggling to keep temp/humidity/odor under control

    in Grow Community

Hey all. I'm more than halfway through my first grow and are currently dealing with a bit of a problem. My grow tent is in an unheated concrete block room (Room temp is very stable) but within the tent, I'm having a hard time keeping the temps below 80f, the humidity below 70%. As such, I've taken to opening a couple of the air intakes and leaving the door 90% zipped. This, I believe, is contributing to the increasingly noticeable, odor while hopefully, keeping the temp/humidity somewhat lower! If I zip it up and close all the intakes, the temp/humidity will only get worse.

As the 3 girls have gotten bigger, the humidity seems to go up more than before, so I do need to play with setting on the humidifier but I think I'd still have temp issues.

Are there options to lower the temp/smell? I likely WILL be getting a larger tent next grow...should I just get a bigger/more CFM charcoal filter? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Are you able to post a picture of your current setup? Just want to get an idea how everything is connected and laid out.

Also, what area of the world are you growing in?

You mention you run a humidifier, what type of water do you put in it? Just wondering if you are putting tap water in there then you may see mineral buildup on the carbon filter sock which will restrict air flow. If that's not an issue, a 6" ventilation setup would help exhaust more of that hot air out of the environment. What is the RH in your lung room?

I'm in Palm Springs so the outside RH is usually quite low (although THIS weekend is up to 50%!) and the room ends up somewhere between there and the tend RH (30-35% ish)

I use tap water so will go check the filter. Below is the humidifier I am using. Up until recently it auto kept the RH within limits. I'm thinking the change in O/S RH and the plants getting so, dang big (it's getting crowded in there!) is contributing. I'm experimenting with keeping the humidifier off, running just the flower lights for less hours (temp). I also have some Ona gel and a small dehumidifier on the way.

For a more permanent solution (and to future-proof) is the AC Infinity CLOUDLINE T6, Quiet 6” Inline Duct Fan with Temperature Humidity Controller worth the extra $$$ over a manually controlled unit? THX!

@John Curry Since you're using tap water then there's a really high chance your airflow is restricted due to mineral buildup in your carbon filter. That may be why your temps get so high in the grow tent. It's happened to me (and many others) in the past. I suggest washing the carbon filter sock and only using reverse osmosis or distilled water in your humidifier. I love the Cloudline T6 and I highly recommend it.
