When growing cannabis in small spaces, you can still get high yields if you have the proper lighting. Although, these days there are so many grow lights on the market that it can be difficult to choose a grow light that is sufficient for optimal cannabis plant growth. I’ve been studying horticulture lighting and growing with LED grow lights for over 5 years now and I’m often asked what are the best LED grow lights on the market today. In this article, I will reveal my picks for the Best LED Grow Lights in 2020. This list will include LED grow lights that have a flowering coverage area of 2’x2’ and are best for a full-cycle grow (from seedling through flowering). These are complete fixtures only. This list does not include DIY grow lights or lights that require significant assembly. The grow lights are listed in no specific order. For a LED grow light to make this list, I factor in: PAR output, efficiency, spectrum, light spread, diodes, drivers, price and warranty. Since prices are always changing, click either the Amazon link or LED Grow Lights Depot link under each light for the most up-to-date price. Horticulture Lighting Group HLG 100 V2 LED Grow Light
Let’s start with the Horticulture Lighting Group 100 V2 LED grow light. I used this LED grow light for a few of my grows and was very happy with the results that I got from such a small, efficient fixture. The HLG 100 V2 uses top-bin Samsung LM301H diodes and a Meanwell driver to power. This white-light LED grow light has a PAR output of 235 umol/s PPF and a PAR efficacy of 2.45 umol/j - all while consuming only 96 watts. The dimensions are 12.75"x11.5" and the fixture weighs 3.8 lbs. You can choose either a 3000k or 4000k spectrum which are recommended for the flowering and vegetative stages respectively. The fixture is passively cooled; so there aren’t any fans cooling the unit. This LED grow light comes with a 1-year warranty.
LEDs: 192 top-bin Samsung LM301H diodes PPF: 235 umol/s PAR efficacy: 2.45 umol/j Wattage draw: 96w Coverage area: Veg- 3’x3’, Flower- 2’x2’ Light distance: Veg- 18”, Flower- 12” Dimensions: 12.75” x 11.5” Weight: 3.8 lbs. Warranty: 1-year
Spider Farmer SF-1000 LED Grow Light
Next up is the Spider Farmer SF-1000 LED grow light. This has a similar design to the HLG 100 V2 but puts up better numbers. It uses Samsung LM301B diodes and powers them with a Meanwell driver. Their custom spectrum includes Blue, White, Red and IR (660-665nm, 3000K, 5000K and IR 760nm) which they state, “provides everything plants desire in the natural sunlight.” It pulls 100 watts from the wall, emits 270 umol/s PPF and has an efficiency of 2.7 umol/j. It is passively cooled via a solid aluminium heat sink and has special protective covers for the cables. It also has a silicone coating over the diodes to make them waterproof. The dimensions are 11.8"x10.5"x2.3” and the fixture weighs 6.09 lbs. This LED grow light has a lifespan of ≥50,000 hours and comes with a 3-year warranty.

Rapid LED Single 75w Plug-and-Play
The Rapid LED Single 75w Plug-and-Play grow light is another excellent COB solution to cover a 2'x2' grow space. This LED grow light comes in six different spectrum options, but I recommend either the 3000k or 3500k for a full-cycle grow. It uses a top bin CREE CXB3590 COB and is powered by a Meanwell driver. The fixture pulls 75 watts from the wall and includes an extra-wide reflector to help reflect the light down onto the footprint. You can get this grow light with or without a dimmer - your choice! The dimensions are 6.3"x6.3"x7.5" and the fixture weighs 6.6 lbs. This LED grow light comes with an 18 month warranty.

MAXSISUN PB1000 LED Grow Light
MAXSISUN has their own LED board grow light that has some differences from the two grow lights mentioned above. This is the MAXSISUN PB1000 LED grow light. It has 300 San’an SMD LEDs and uses a Sosen driver to power them. It pulls 100 watts from the wall and has an efficiency of 2.7 umol/j. Its spectrum consists of 3500k, 6500k, and 660nm diodes. There aren’t any cooling fans on this LED grow light; it is passively cooled via a 5mm thick aluminum heat sink. The dimensions are 12”x10.8”x2.5” and the fixture weighs 4.8 lbs. This LED grow light has a lifespan of ≥100,000 hours and comes with a 3-year warranty.

MAXSISUSN PB1500 LED Grow Light
The MAXSISUN PB1500 is said to have a 2.5’x2.5’ flowering coverage area, but after testing, I think it would do fantastic in a 2’x2’ grow space - that’s why it’s on this list. It has 450 San’an SMD LEDs and uses a Sosen driver to power them. It pulls 150 watts from the wall, and has an efficiency of 2.7 umol/j. It has the same spectrum as the PB1000 listed above - 3500k, 6500k, and 660nm diodes. The dimensions are 15.5”x10.8”x2.5” and the fixture weighs 6.3 lbs. GrowStar S600 LED Grow Light
MY BUDGET PICK: Here’s an LED grow light that you look at and may assume it’s not going to be very good - at least I did! I tested the PAR output on this grow light and was surprised by the high PPFD numbers that my PAR meter showed. Yes, it is a, “blurple light.” So if you can’t stand working on your plants in purple lighting then this one probably isn't for you. This LED grow light uses a combination of two 3000k CREE COBs and Epiled LEDs. It emits a full spectrum of light (from 380nm to 780nm) and pulls 140w from the wall. Unfortunately, the efficacy isn’t listed. So we don’t know for sure if this fixture consumes more or less than your traditional HID grow light. However, the price is the cheapest (of all LED grow lights on this list) and the PAR output is arguably the best. It utilizes active cooling via two fans. This budget LED grow light has a lifespan of 50,000 hours and comes with a 2-year warranty.
LEDs: 56pcs Dual 10w Epiled LED Chips & 2pcs 24w CREE COB PPF: ? umol/s PAR efficacy: ? umol/j Wattage draw: 140w Coverage area: Veg- 2.5’x2.5’, Flower- 2’x2’ Light distance: Veg- 18”, Flower- 14” Dimensions: 13” x 7.9” x 2.5” Weight: 5.4 lbs. Warranty: 2-year
What LED grow light do you think is the best on this list? Do you think any other LED grow lights (with a 2’x2’ flowering coverage area) should have made this list? I’d also love to hear from growers using these LED grow lights. What do you like/dislike about these LED grow lights?
